Frank Watson's picture

Modern paraphrase:

Summer is a comin' in,
Loudly sing cuckoo!
Grows the seeds, and blows the meads,
And springs the woods anew—
Sing cuckoo!

Ewe bleats after lamb,
And loud after calves, the cows;
Bulls now start, and bucks now fart,
And merry sing cuckoo!

Cuckoo, cuckoo, well sing you do, cuckoo!
Don't stop, oh never do—
Sing cuckoo, sing cuckoo, anew!
