313th Weekly Poetry Contest winner: This Was October

by miriamb2400

I'll tell you of my favorite time,
when the October sun carries broken shards
of autumn, wrapping itself around
moonlit shadows that sneak in during
daylight;
My favorite time to
watch how the morning light peels
back its bronze skin and stretches
over the hallways doors, the
dusty mote-edged windowpanes and
lazy days, like the rubber band
snaps back and settles;
my favorite time
bends and shakes and leans
back to watch itself as it pours
bottles of blue across the sky,
promising dusk and color and secrets
revealed, glory and divine;
hidden like the opaque awakening cries of
the autumn owl at night,
and the earliest bird in the
dawning sepia light...
