477th Weekly Poetry Contest winner: A Defense for All Accidental Eavesdroppers

by IABeatnik

I don't mean to eavesdrop;
words simply fly by me
and I happen to pick them up
like loose change lost on the sidewalk.

It's not my fault
that my ears are always open.
I was just born this way
with two holes in my head.

So, if I unfortunately
tune in to your conversation,
I'll wander away
and whisper under a gentle breath,

                                      "Sorry."
