Moon girl, my moon girl
I write to you with the softness of your embrace
Even from my distant planet, your gravity reaches me
Tied to the earth as I am tied to you
Sometimes when nights are dark and the ground falls quiet
I whisper to you
I speak of your greatness and your beauty
My words, though quietly uttered, blink bright in the night sky
A secret language, only ours
Between the watched and waiting
Though my cheeks burn as I write you this letter, I must confess that you consume me
Like the tides of my planet, I wait for you to tell my rise
Sometimes my love for you is more than I can keep
It flows from my hands, as I sculpt every crater on your surface
Hours I spend leaping in the night, a jar in my hand, attempting to catch some of your light
A jar of my moon to add to my creation, but no matter how much a try nothing captures your essence
When this reaches you and you trace my words
We both understand that there is nothing new to say
I write and you shine, like it's always been
I yearn to be up in the sky, holding your hand
And you tell me of the emptiness of space
I feel in my heart that any place you occupy could never feel such a way
I almost tell you this, slow blinks in the dark
But my knowledge of our distances closes my mouth, for I know that if it were to open,
I would cry and you would hear my screams
Moon girl, my Moon girl
I'll see your crescent smile when you read all the love I have for you
Your cheeks will match my hue and you will turn away, hiding in the darkness
I will laugh and smile at the outline of your body
Knowing that when the earth grows cold again, you will return my laughter
Just as you will return my letter
Blank, every word absorbed
Etched into your surface
And with that blank letter, I will write again to you
My love, my moon
