I was lying underneath the willow tree in summer fields green,
Lengthy grass growing between my fingers, shallow breaths and fluttering eyelids,
Dreaming of slight nothings that will never be remembered,

You were lying underneath the willow tree beside me,
Were you searching for respite or purpose? Lost perhaps from your path by debating with your own heart?
You lay down near, placed all belongings at the tree’s base, and were swallowed by the tall turf, blanketed by the oppressive heat, your eyes gradually closing to the temperate blue skies,
Our skin became tanned golden and you gently took hold of my sleeping hand,
How long has it been?

When you departed abruptly, I found to grasping cool air,
Where was your reassuring presence? Heavy and grounding to my own spirit,
I awaken from my slumber, shaking off drives leaves and crawling roots, the dust brushed off as a shawl,
My eyes sting hey widen at the vast landscape flourishing with Nature’s bounty, how sublime and absorbing!
But there you were, spotted strolling past to lands yet unknown,
In a moment’s notice, my heartbeat spurred, I stood up to follow.
