Only A Word

Aye, one word!—and forever ends
The Judas-counsel of fair false friends,
Ends the doubt and the vain debate,
Ends the weary tangle of state.
Ends forever the troublous ghost
Of fleet or file from the Old World coast,
(Borne o'er the shuddering seas to swell
The waning squadrons of Death and Hell)—
And a Nation springs once more to the fight,
With the deathless war-cry of “God and Right!”
