Sanpaku Nation

by msleah

I have nothing to say any more
about guns:
except no one wants to be
at the wrong end of one-
the person on the opposite side
is profoundly sure

of his right to determine
whether you live or die.

How can anyone presume
to make that call, yet it
is heard in cities and rural areas
in suburban malls

and alone in houses
and cars: the sound of explosions
as life departs, leaving a puddle
and glass. We decry
the bloodshed on our shore

Brother

Brother

“I am not your damn brother!”

You shouted at me as if to prove your greater value

The look of utter disgust piercing my chest as you look down on my existence

Sorry brother I didn’t mean to spill my water on your superior jeans

“I am not your damn brother!!”

My face crumples with the curiosity of why you continue this glare and snarl

How is it that our shared humanity is somehow separated in this moment

Sorry brother I don’t mean to cause your anger with my vernacular

“I am not your damn brother!!!”

The brightest of smiles

by sneha

Deep breaths
Take a deep deep breath
Plaster a smile over you face and join the crowd
Loud laughs and wide, wide smiles
The wider the better
Do not let them catch you without one
Cause tonight they are celebrating you
Or atleast who they think you are
You clever little fox!
You did it!
You convinced them you are perfect
And since they bought that, you have to be that
Isn't it fun walking around with head held high in shoes that are killing you?
Isn't it amazing partying hard when you would rather curl up with a book?

The Sun

Oh Sun ,eternal light,
You shine and make us see
Our ways,our will and might
Forever free you'll be.

We run,we think,we love
Things once we knew...
Would never be above,
Everything new !

Keys

I wish I were vindictive
Instead of disappointed
You were not heartless but
She should get over
Losing her body
Watching friends die
Jacked on more steroids than a homicidal football team
At six
And if your kids jeer
They are blameless
Really, you’ll talk to them, but really
It’s absurd
All kids do that
Then finally
Glancing at the clock
Too late
The truth
Like a slap in the face
An afterthought
My girl’s reaction, now there’s a problem!
OK, fuck you,
But finally

Smile

Smile is something very sweet
it is sweeter than honey
and precious than money.

Smile is something very beautiful
which pleases even a fool and
makes everyone feel cool.

Smile is something very great
which replaces the word hate and
and the earth turns to be mate.

Smle is something which though
last for a while really touches
ones heart.

Letting Go

Let go of the anger
you harbor from the past.
My mistakes,
I cannot undo.
Though,
if given a magical eraser,
I would wipe out them all
and try again.

Let go of the anger
that you nurture
day by day.
The past is done.
Complete;
cannot be changed.

Let go of the anger
that binds you
to the past.
I beg of you,
Let it all go
and for now,
live in today.
