I have great need that the Saint grant help
I have great need that the Saint grant help
When the dearest of all things undo their union;
When the two that were married dissolve their tie,
Their binding love, and my soul leaves body
Going its way I know not whither,
Not knowing the realm. From this I shall come
To another country according to my deeds,
And my works that are past. Sadly shall depart
C, Y, and N. The King will be stern,
The Lord of triumph, when stained with sin
E, W, and U shall await in terror
What the Judge may ordain according to past deeds,
As reward for life. L, F shall tremble
And wretchedly wait; shall remember the wrong,
The wounds of evil that early or late
I wrought in the world. In that hour weeping
I shall mourn with tears. Too late was the time
When first I shamed me of my deeds of sin
While body and spirit sojourned together
United on earth. I have need of mercy
That the Saint intercede with the King of kings;
My need forewarns me, and sorrow of soul.
I beseech each man of the race of men,
Who recites this lay, that with fervor and zeal
He will be mindful of me by name,
And pray Heaven's Lord to grant me help,
The God of Might on the Great Day,
The Father and Comforter in that fearful hour,
The Judge of deeds and the dear Son,
When the Trinity sitting enthroned in glory,
One in three, shall award to men
Through the radiant world, according to their works,
To each man reward. Grant us, Great God,
Thou Joy of men, that we find Thy face
Mild with mercy on that Great Day! Amen.
