Impromptu. The Shoemaker and Coxcomb, An Epigrammatic Pun
To a shoemaker's shop a spruce beau, t'other day,
For a pair of new boots made the best of his way,
A coxcomb egregious all over;
And trying some on, at their fashion he swore,…
They were all out of ton,…were too short,…a vile bore,
And the calf ought entirely to cover.
Why then, says the shoemaker, archly and sly,
The boots to do that Sir, should be six feet high.
For a pair of new boots made the best of his way,
A coxcomb egregious all over;
And trying some on, at their fashion he swore,…
They were all out of ton,…were too short,…a vile bore,
And the calf ought entirely to cover.
Why then, says the shoemaker, archly and sly,
The boots to do that Sir, should be six feet high.
