the petal slowly tumbles down,
a violet blur on earthy brown,
plucking petals, tempting fate
guess my heart just couldn’t wait

she loves me so, she loves me not
how I wish I’d not be caught
how I wish I’d just let go
how I wish that none would know
she loves me not, she loves me so
petals drifting down like snow
my heart did wish and hope and pray
that it could merely cool like frost
blind itself at any cost
to hit the brakes before it breaks
before the final petal falls
before the tender heartstrings call

she loves me so, she loves me not
if I knew that love which bloomed
could leave me raw and leave me doomed
I’d cut those roots before they grew
and prune the buds before they knew
that love’s a game so cold and cruel
she loves me not, she loves me so
a game so cold, but yet so warm
that brings me close, then drives me far
and yet each time I play once more
I sow the seeds and watch them grow
I watch them bloom, I watch them die
I smile, I laugh and then I cry
I sow the seeds and watch them grow

she loves me not, she loves me so
she loves me so, she loves me not
